Do you want to give an infectious disease to an infant or toddler that will gravely sicken or even kill them? If we don’t vaccinate our children on time that is exactly what we could be doing.
Six years ago my son was born. A short time later I made it my priority to get him vaccinated in a timely manner. I came to this conclusion using facts, logic, and overwhelming medical evidence that has been tested to be proven safe and reliable. It was then I stumbled upon a very disturbing and deadly trend.
A growing population of young adults and parents are refusing to get vaccinated and/or refusing to vaccinate their children on time. Some parents and care givers have blamed the vaccine’s, claiming the medicine simply doesn’t work.
According to the CDC,
“Vaccination is an important part of keeping children healthy and protected from potentially serious diseases like measles and whooping cough. CDC’s recommended immunization schedule helps protect children from 14 serious diseases by the time they are 2 years old.”
Fear and ignorance is putting us all at risk, but more importantly our children. Here are the 4 most common reasons most parents and caregivers are not getting their child vaccinated or vaccinated on time;
- Breast Feeding
- False or Misleading information they found in social media.
- Fear of Autism
The argument health professionals have with some religious beliefs is exhausting and never-ending. When a child becomes ill they turn to their parents for help. The child is innocent and doesn’t know any better. More times than not, all the parents have to do was take their child to see a Physician. Withholding proper medical care in times of need usually has sinister consequences. When the child is given medical treatment it is almost always too late.
According to the CDC, A baby will typically breast feed for six months to a year.
Breastfeeding is the best source of nutrition for most infants. It can also reduce the risk for some short- and long-term health conditions for both infants and mothers.
The Mothers breast milk has antibodies that protect the child until the infants first vaccination. This is all great news, if and only if the babies mother herself becomes vaccinated. If the baby’s mother isn’t up to date with her vaccines or she has refused to be vaccinated, she will unknowingly put her newborn in harms way.
When these people are asked if they can produce a credible medical source of their facts, not one person could produce a single piece of tangible medical evidence to support their claims. In other words, every source they cited ended in a dot.com. Some of the misinformation can be found @ this , and that.
Not surprising, outbreaks of infectious disease have sprung up in the U.S. because people refuse to get immunized.
CNN reported measles cases are on par for 2018 to be the highest in seventeen years. The numbers are still coming in. So far 159 documented cases have been reported from Jan 1 through March 24, 2018.
1996 is the highest year on record for measles with 500 documented infections.(CDC)
Time Magazine reported in the year 2000, measles was thought to be eradicated in the United States. This just isn’t possible because in other countries, even in well developed countries, measles is common. Most outbreaks seem to be caused by people who travel in and out of the U.S. innocently affecting those who were never immunized. The CDC says, around 90 percent of the people who have had measles in this country were not vaccinated either because they refused, or were not vaccinated on time.
This is by far the biggest reason why people refuse to vaccinate their children.
In 1998 Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a gastroenterologist (stomach doctor) in the United Kingdom, published an article in a medical journal. He claimed there were similarities between Autism and a child’s first round of vaccines.
At this point I want to stress he was a stomach doctor who was giving his medical opinion on one of the causes of Autism Spectral Disorder.
He made this claim after he observed symptoms of autism in children days after they were vaccinated. What Dr. Wakefield didn’t know or didn’t care to know, most children will start showing signs of autism around the first year after birth. The same time that that the American Academy of Pediatrics advises us to get the first does of the MMR (mumps, measles, and rubella) vaccination. Some side effects caused by the MMR vaccine look like symptoms of Autism. Health Professionals have known this and so did Mr. Wakefield.
He is accused and found guilty of many things. One of them was giving money to the children he studied in exchange for their testimony.
As soon as the medical journal understood they had been scammed, they instantly retracted the article within days of its publication. Dr. Wakefield was later striped of his medical license.
He left the U.K. in disgrace and now resides in the U.S. as an outspoken critic of vaccines.
What is more frustrating and disturbing is a fact in the Sage Medical Journals of Autism. The Journal reports a trend with parents who have more than one child.
On average, if the oldest child develops autism after being vaccinated, the terrified parents will refuse to vaccinate the rest of their children. Fear, ignorance, and social media only add strength to their mistrust in the government and medical doctors.
Good News A lot of deadly viruses have been eradicated. Small Pox is one of them. If everyone got vaccinated today for MMR, eradication will be the only outcome. Parents would not have to worry anymore about their baby getting deathly ill from someone who is misinformed before his/hers first inoculation.
Conclusion Folks, we don’t want our families to get sick, no one does. But that is what is going to happen if they don’t get immunized. I am begging all of you, please make the decision to immunize your child when the time comes. Giving your baby fresh start in this world and protecting them from things we can see is all we can do. We also need to protect them from the things we can’t see as well.
